The Kwikee Step Motor, Gearbox Upgrade kit is an electric step improvement.
- 'A' linkage gearbox
- IMGL (integrated motor / gear box / linkage A)
- Control unit Clevis & cotter pin
- 4-way pigtail Fasteners
- Door switch
- The Integrated Motor/Gear Box/Linkage (IMGL) offers improved performance and longer life.
- 40% more motor torque gives step a strong lock-out and solid feel.
- Fully-sealed dual ball bearing improves efficiency and requires no maintenance. Case halves seal to keep consistent alignment and protect gear from the elements.
- Investment cast zinc-plated steel linkage assembly is strong and more resistant to corrosion. The brass spherical outer cage hardened ball in the linkage is stronger, wears longer and will not oblong.
- The 9510 Control Unit keeps the step open when the door is open. Step can be locked in the extended position, but cannot be locked in the retracted position. Automatic ignition override makes step follow the door.

The motor lasted 16 months

“I upgraded my step gearbox and motor sept 2018. Motor failed after 16 months. Fortunately this will be under $100 bucks.”

It worked for 28months. Then the gears on the motor itself (plastic/nylon worm gear actually), stripped. The main transmission gears are steel as stated in the description. However, the motor drives a pretty weak plastic worm gear. The weakest link.The gear is stripped, I am replacing it with a new motor assy. This thing would be bulletproof with a steel gear. My understanding is that these motors are ford window actuator motors. I’m sure that they are robust enough for that application. I have read quite a few other reports of this same deficiency. If you want to use your stairs, you really don’t have a choice. So go ahead and buy it. Just plan on replacing the motor assy. in a year or two . Good luck.”
